Vernon: Quiet Time with Santa (Date to Be Confirmed)
Vernon Township Recreation lists a Quiet Time with Santa from 5 to 6 p.m., right before its December tree lighting, on its news and events page. The name suggests a calmer visit before the lighting crowd arrives; Vernon Recreation can share the details. Earlier in the season, Vernon’s Annual Holiday Market on Saturday, November 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cobblestone Village at Mountain Creek includes Letters to Santa along with local vendors, food and music. See our things to do in Vernon guide for more.
Hardyston: Tree Lighting With Santa (Date to Be Announced)
The Hardyston Recreation Department says its holiday tree lighting includes a visit from Santa Claus and take-home goodies for the children. A 2026 date was not posted when we checked, so call 973-823-7020 or check the Hardyston holiday events page.
Tips for a Smooth Santa Visit
- Go early. First come, first served breakfasts and village photo lines are shortest right when Santa arrives.
- Charge your phone. Bring a phone or camera so you have your own shots, even at events with a photographer.
- Write the letter ahead of time. Kids love handing Santa a wish list in person, and Vernon’s Holiday Market has a Letters to Santa station.
- Pair it with a tree lighting. Our tree lighting guide shows which towns light their trees the same weekends.
- Pick out the tree, too. Our guide to Christmas tree farms in Sussex County makes it a full family day.
Tip From Our Team
Thanksgiving weekend is the busiest stretch for Santa in Sussex County, with Crystal Springs, Lafayette and the Newton parade all landing between November 27 and 29. If you want shorter lines and calmer kids, aim for a weeknight at the Skylands Christmas Village once Santa’s schedule is posted, or the Hamburg breakfast in mid December.
