Who is Ted Vigil?
Ted Vigil is a singer, songwriter and tribute artist from Washington State, born in Seattle and raised in the Olympia area, according to his official website. He began performing at age 10, playing drums and singing in school concert, symphonic and jazz bands, and is known today for his John Denver tribute show.
His website lists a few highlights worth knowing before you go:
- First place at Talent Quest 2006 in Laughlin, Nevada, a competition that drew performers from 28 states plus New Zealand, Australia and Canada.
- Winner of KOMO 4’s Northwest Afternoon celebrity look-alike contest in Seattle.
- Two performances for John Denver’s Windstar Foundation in Aspen, Colorado.
- The Rising Legend Award from the National Traditional Country Music Association.
- Steve Weisberg, a lead guitarist who played with John Denver in the 1970s, called Vigil’s act “uncanny.”
What to expect at a John Denver tribute show
Ted Vigil’s regular set, per his website, includes Denver signatures such as “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” “Leaving on a Jet Plane,” “Annie’s Song,” “Rocky Mountain High,” “Calypso,” “Thank God I’m a Country Boy” and “Sunshine on My Shoulders.” Rocky Mountain Christmas is billed as the holiday edition of the tribute, so expect a seasonal feel alongside the hits. The Newton Theatre has not published a set list, so we will leave the exact songs as a surprise.
The 3 p.m. start is one of the best parts. You can be home before dinner, and the afternoon timing works well for older relatives and kids who would struggle with a late concert.
