The Town of Newton’s annual Halloween Parade returns on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Union Place in downtown Newton, with lineup at 3:45 p.m. and the parade and festivities starting at 4 p.m. Sponsored by the Newton Fire Department, the afternoon also brings a costume contest, a pet walk and a trunk or treat, so kids can show off their costumes and fill their candy bags before dark.

Our team pulled these details from the Town of Newton’s own event announcement and its list of annual community events, which describes the Halloween Parade and Trunk or Treat as a spooky and fun-filled celebration for all ages.

What to Expect at the Newton Halloween Parade

The town is calling on families to grab their ghouls and goblins and head to Union Place for the parade. Kids dress up in their favorite costumes, march in the parade and then trick-or-treat from decorated car trunks, which makes it an easy, contained way for younger children to celebrate.

There is something for everyone in the family to enter. The costume contest awards prizes for the best costumes, the trunk or treat awards prizes for the best decorated trunks, and the pet walk gives costumed dogs their own moment in the spotlight.

How to Sign Up for the Trunk or Treat

If you want to decorate your car and hand out candy, you must pre-register. The town asks trunk or treat participants to email marketing@newtontownhall.com to sign up.

That pre-registration is for the trunk or treat only. Families who just want to walk in the parade, enter the costume fun or cheer from the sidelines do not need to register, so you can simply show up at Union Place in time for the 3:45 p.m. lineup.

Planning Your Halloween Afternoon in Newton

Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, and the 4 p.m. start means the parade wraps up a full afternoon of costumes before evening trick-or-treating in your own neighborhood. We suggest arriving a little before lineup so little ones can find their friends and get settled before the parade steps off.

Questions about the event can go to the Town of Newton at 39 Trinity Street or by phone at 973-383-3521.

If you are making a day of it downtown, our guide to the 13 best restaurants to try in Newton has plenty of spots for an early dinner after the parade.
