Heritage Weekend spreads historic sites across the county, farm festivals stay open from Newton to Vernon, and The Newton Theatre has shows on Saturday and Sunday.
16th Annual Heritage Weekend, Saturday, October 10 and Sunday, October 11, countywide. The Sussex County Arts and Heritage Council highlights museums, historic sites and historical societies. Confirmed stops include the Revolution 250 exhibit, “Revolutionary Lives,” at 133 Spring Street, Newton, on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Saturday is closed for installation); “Posters for the People” at Peters Valley School of Craft, 19 Kuhn Road, Layton, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days; and a model-train demonstration at Sparta Train Station, 30 Station Road, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Sunday in Newton adds a free Fall Festival and Car Show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (cars in Municipal Lot 4, the festival on Spring Street), a history talk at 133 Spring Street from 1 to 2 p.m., and a pop-up art show at 39 Trinity Street from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Van Campen Day runs Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. in Walpack Center. The map is on the Heritage Weekend page. The Byram Township Historical Society joins in at the Roseville Schoolhouse, 10 Mansfield Drive, Stanhope, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days. Garlic Fest, Saturday and Sunday, Lafayette. The Shoppes at Lafayette, 75 State Route 15, Building C-4, Lafayette Township, hosts Garlic Fest on Saturday, October 10, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, October 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free, with food, garlic growers, vendors and live music. Green Valley Farms BBQ and Harvest Festival, Saturday and Sunday, Wantage. Green Valley Farms, 997 Route 23, Wantage, runs its BBQ and Harvest Festival from noon Saturday, October 10, through 4 p.m. Sunday, October 11, with barbecue, homemade ice cream, hayrides, a corn maze, a pumpkin patch, vendors and live music. Great Pumpkin Festival, Friday through Sunday, Vernon. Heaven Hill Farm, 451 State Route 94, Vernon, is open Friday, October 9, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Online admission is $15.99 for ages 3 and up, day-of admission is $19.99 when tickets remain, and children 2 and under are free. The ticket includes the hayride, corn maze and pig races. Full carnival rides on October 10 and 11 cost extra. Tickets are on the Great Pumpkin Festival page.
Fall Fest, Saturday and Sunday, Vernon. Mountain Creek Resort, 200 Route 94, Vernon, runs Fall Fest on October 10 and 11 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sky Rides are $14.99 plus fees and must be bought online. Garrett Gardner plays Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m., and Circo Patti plays Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. The schedule is on the Mountain Creek Fall Fest page.
Lentini Farms Fall Fest, Friday through Sunday, Newton. Lentini Farms, 251 High Street, Newton, is open Friday from 4 to 10 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. through October 25. Last entry is 30 minutes before closing. Haunted hayrides run Friday and Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m. through October 24. Read our Lentini Farms Fall Fest guide, and see Lentini Farms.
Haunted Wild West City, Friday and Saturday, Byram. Wild West City, 50 Lackawanna Drive, Stanhope, runs the haunted train and walking trail every Friday and Saturday from 6:30 to 10 p.m. through October 31. Online tickets are $30 and limited door tickets are $35. The park calls the event PG-13. The last train leaves at 9:15 p.m. Details are on the Haunted Wild West City page.
SoulShine, Saturday, Newton. SoulShine, an Allman Brothers experience, plays The Newton Theatre, 234 Spring Street, on Saturday, October 10. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. See SkyPAC.

- Monday, October 12. Mountain Creek keeps Fall Fest open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Heaven Hill Farm is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with full carnival rides that day.
- Saturday, October 17. The free Harvest, Honey and Garlic Festival runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fairgrounds Farmers Market Building, 37 Plains Road, Augusta. See the Sussex County calendar.
