Veterans and their families from all over New Jersey now have a new place to pause and reflect. Veterans Valor will formally dedicate The Gateway at The Healing Garden on Sunday, November 15, 2026, from 1 to 4 PM, and the invitation reaches well beyond Morris County. The nonprofit welcomes supporters from across the state, which makes this a worthwhile Sunday drive for Sussex County veterans, their families and anyone who wants to say thank you.

Where it is

The Healing Garden is taking shape at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum, 353 East Hanover Avenue in Morris Township, a public garden run by the Morris County Park Commission. Admission to the dedication is free and you do not need to register.

What you will see

The Gateway is phase one of a planned set of seven gardens for veterans and their families. Its stone walls hold the seals of the six branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. Bruin & Sons Landscape and Construction built the Gateway and is donating a Christmas tree that will stand beside it.

That tree is the centerpiece of a new Honor a Veteran ornament program. At the dedication, guests can choose an ornament for a $25 donation and have it placed on the tree in honor of someone who served. Ornaments are sold in person only, with no online ordering for now.

Who is behind it

Veterans Valor is a New Jersey 501(c)(3) nonprofit that creates Healing Gardens meant to turn the scars of war into spaces of peace and community. The group is working with the Morris County Park Commission, Rotary District 7475 and local veterans and health organizations. Veterans and veteran groups are planning the dedication itself, but the event is open to everyone, veteran or not.
