The best thrift stores in Sussex County, NJ stretch from downtown Newton and Sparta up Route 94 to Hardyston and Vernon, and our team picked 7 shops for secondhand clothing, home goods, holiday decor and consigned gear. Every shop below is confirmed open on its Google Business Profile, and we pulled the details from each shop’s own page or listing.
Several of these shops are run by church volunteers and put their proceeds back into local charities, so a bag of finds here does double duty. If you like the hunt, pair this list with our guide to antique shops in Sussex County.
1. Woodstock Vibes, Hardyston

Woodstock Vibes on Route 94 calls itself a high end thrift store, with brand name clothing, shoes and accessories plus a big selection of vintage pieces. The family-owned shop sits in Hardyston (its mailing address reads 3235 Route 94, Franklin), and inside you will find The Luxe Era, a boutique corner for luxury and designer items. The store is open every day from 10 AM to 6 PM and has no phone, so the shop asks shoppers to reach out by email at WoodstockVibes@gmail.com or through Facebook.
2. Beehive Thrift Shop, Newton

Beehive Thrift Shop holds a storefront at 123 Spring Street in downtown Newton, a short walk from the shops and restaurants on the square. The Town of Newton lists it on its official retail directory, and the shop is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 AM to 3 PM and Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM. It is a good stop for clothing, housewares and the kind of odd find that becomes a conversation piece. Phone: (973) 383-1228.

Sales are cash only, and proceeds plus donations that do not make the sales floor go to other charities locally and worldwide. Hours are Wednesday 10 AM to 2 PM, Thursday and Friday 1 PM to 4 PM, and Saturday 10 AM to 2 PM. Phone: (973) 729-9121.
6. The Stock Exchange, Sparta

St. Joseph’s Thrift Shop, run by St. Joseph Parish, sits at 17 Halsted Street in Newton, a few blocks from Beehive. It is open Thursday and Friday from 10 AM to 4 PM and on Saturday mornings. Shoppers give it some of the highest marks of any thrift shop in the county, and it is worth pairing with Beehive for a two-stop morning in downtown Newton.
Tips for Thrifting in Sussex County
Many of the church-run shops here are staffed by volunteers and keep short hours a few days a week, so plan a route that groups the Newton and Sparta shops together. Bring cash for the smaller shops, and if you are donating, drop items off only during open hours. Late fall is a great time to look for coats, boots and holiday decor before the rush.
Turn It Into a Day
Thrifting pairs well with a meal out. Our antique shop guide covers more vintage stops along Route 94 and Route 15, and most of these shops sit within a few minutes of a downtown lunch spot.
