Ice skating in Sussex County NJ centers on Skylands Ice World, a two-rink indoor arena at 2765 State Highway 23 in Stockholm, in Hardyston Township. Families, new skaters and hockey players use it all year for public skating, lessons, leagues and parties, and our team pulled everything below from the Skylands Ice World website.

Whether you want a winter afternoon on the ice with the kids or a place to start skating lessons or hockey, here is what to know before you lace up.
About Skylands Ice World
Skylands Ice World opened in 2004 and is owned by Black Bear Sports Group. The 80,688 square foot facility houses two NHL-sized ice rinks, which is why it can run public sessions, lessons and hockey at the same time. It sits right on Route 23 in the Stockholm section of Hardyston, an easy drive from Franklin, Vernon, Sparta and the rest of northern Sussex County.
The building also has private party rooms and is home to other on-site businesses, including SportsCare Physical Therapy. Beyond skating, the rink hosts trade shows and private rentals.
Public Skating
Public skating is the simplest way to get on the ice in Sussex County. Sessions run at set times inside the rink’s operating hours, and the current list lives on the Skylands public skating page.
One money saver is worth knowing. Since July 15, 2026, Skylands has offered savings of up to 33 percent when you pre-register and pay online, since prices may vary at the rink. If you plan to go, booking ahead online is the cheaper route.
Rink Hours
Skylands Ice World lists these general hours of operation on its information page:
- Monday: 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.
- Tuesday: 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
- Wednesday: 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.
- Thursday: 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
- Friday: 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.
- Saturday: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Sunday: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Apparel, gear and skate sharpening are available at the rink.
Learn to Skate and Hockey Programs
Skylands runs a range of hockey and skating programs, from beginner instruction to drop-ins and leagues. The Learn to Skate page is the place to start for new skaters of any age.
One important note for parents: Skylands says it can no longer provide helmets. If your child is taking lessons or is new to the ice, plan to bring your own helmet.
Birthday Parties, Groups and Field Trips
Skating parties are a Sussex County birthday staple, and Skylands has private party rooms to go with its two sheets of ice. The rink also supports corporate and community functions, group outings and school field trips, which makes it a solid pick for a scout troop, team or office outing on a cold day.
