The Sussex County Arts & Heritage Council (SCAHC) opens its annual Holiday Market, the Small Works Exhibition and Sale, on Friday, November 27, 2026, at its gallery at 133 Spring Street in Newton. The show fills the gallery with handmade gifts and small artworks from local artists, crafters and artisan vendors, and it stays up into early January, with a Reception and Holiday Party on Saturday, December 12.
Our team likes this one because it is not a one-day rush. You can stop in on a weekday lunch break or a Saturday afternoon any time during the busiest stretch of the shopping season, and every purchase supports a nonprofit that backs the arts across Sussex County.
What the SCAHC Holiday Market Is
According to the SCAHC Holiday Market page, the Small Works Exhibition and Sale is a returning tradition that showcases the creativity of local artists, crafters and artisan vendors. The council describes it as a place to find one-of-a-kind, handcrafted gifts while supporting local talent in an art-filled space.
The format is an exhibition and sale, so the work on the walls and tables is there to be bought and taken home as gifts. Because the show is made up of small works, it is a good fit for stocking stuffers, teacher gifts and pieces that fit on a shelf or a small wall.
New in 2026: Vendor Tables
This year SCAHC is adding vendor tables to the gallery for the first time. Vendors can set up a table for roughly six weeks during peak holiday shopping, and SCAHC handles the sales and sales tax for items on the tables. Vendors can restock during the run without extra fees.
SCAHC lists the vendor table fee as $40 plus a 30 percent commission on each sale. Signed vendor contracts and fees are due by Wednesday, November 11, at 5 PM. To request the full vendor contract, the council asks vendors to email andrea@scahc.org.

The Reception and Holiday Party on December 12
The highlight of the run is the Reception and Holiday Party on Saturday, December 12, starting at 2 PM at the gallery. SCAHC invites guests to come in festive attire, enjoy light refreshments, meet the local artists behind the work and take in the holiday spirit. It is a natural stop if you are already downtown for an afternoon of shopping on Spring Street.
Gallery Location and Hours
The SCAHC gallery is at 133 Spring Street in downtown Newton. The council lists its regular gallery hours as Tuesday through Friday from 10 AM to 5 PM and Saturday from 12 to 4 PM. Office hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 AM to 4 PM. For questions, SCAHC can be reached at scahc@scahc.org or 973-383-0027.
Why Shopping Here Matters
SCAHC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and its website explains that its Arts Regrant Program helps support more than 20 arts and history nonprofits. The council says almost all of the funding it receives from the State of New Jersey is passed along to those groups, so it relies on members, sponsors, donations and fundraising to cover its own costs. Buying a gift at the Holiday Market keeps money with local makers and helps the council keep that work going.
The council also takes part in New Jersey’s Families First Discovery Pass program, which gives families enrolled in state assistance programs affordable access to the arts, and it offers discounted pricing for veterans, active military and their spouses.
