Vernon is the four-season corner of Sussex County, home to Mountain Creek, Crystal Springs and the farm stands along Route 94 and Route 517, so a good meal fits into almost any day trip. Kites Restaurant

Kites sits on the second floor of the Minerals Hotel at Crystal Springs Resort, 2 Chamonix Drive. The kitchen serves contemporary American food with mountain views and an eclectic cocktail list, plus a kids menu. Breakfast runs daily from 8 to 11 a.m. with a buffet on Saturday and Sunday, lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and dinner from 5 to 10 p.m. A live DJ takes over the bar Friday and Saturday from 10 p.m. Reservations are strongly recommended at 855-294-4910.
The George Inn

The George Inn at 84 State Route 94 carries the year 1872 in its name and plenty of antique charm and wood detailing inside. It is a restaurant, tap room, banquet room for up to 80 guests and package goods store in one building, a short drive from Mountain Creek and Crystal Springs. The restaurant and tap room are open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, with the kitchen closing at 9 p.m. Call 973-827-5758.
Wings Asian Bistro

Wings Asian Bistro at 281 Route 94 covers Japanese, Chinese and Thai, with signature sushi rolls, hibachi entrees and lunch specials like General Tso’s chicken and pad Thai. Hours are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday 12 to 10 p.m. It is closed Tuesday. Tomato Garden Pizza and Restaurant

Tomato Garden at 530 County Road 515 is a family-owned Italian restaurant with a friendly, casual room and a full pizza counter. It is the go-to here for a pie or a plate of pasta with the kids, and the website posts a weekly special. The website lists hours of 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Call 973-764-4162.
Sushi Ya 2

Sushi Ya 2 shares the 530 County Road 515 plaza with Tomato Garden and serves sushi rolls, sashimi, tempura and hibachi. Hours are Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday 12 to 9 p.m. Order online through its website or call 973-764-0636.
The Glenwood

The Glenwood at 2 Vernon Crossing Road, in the Glenwood section of Vernon Township, is a bar and restaurant with local food, daily specials and weekend brunch. Downstairs, The Underground adds augmented darts, Trackman golf simulators, shuffleboard and pool, and it is usually open Wednesday through Sunday. Kitchen hours are Monday through Wednesday 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday and Friday 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Call 973-764-2600.
How to Plan a Vernon Food Stop
Start with a weekend breakfast buffet at Kites, or save it for dinner with a view after a day on the mountain. Tomato Garden and Sushi Ya 2 share a plaza on County Road 515, so one stop covers pizza or sushi for the whole car. The George Inn and Wings Asian Bistro sit along Route 94, and Wings is closed Tuesday. For a night with games, head north to The Glenwood and book a golf simulator downstairs.
