Green Township, NJ is a rural community in southern Sussex County, with hamlets that include Tranquility and Greendell. Our team mapped the township’s own parks, a county connector trail and a large wildlife management area that Green shares with Fredon.
The details below come from the Green Township website and from the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife map for Whittingham Wildlife Management Area. If you want a meal after a walk, nearby Andover has its own restaurant guide.
EverGreen Park on Kennedy Road
The township calls EverGreen Park on Kennedy Road its most significant park. The facilities page lists a playground, a pavilion, soccer fields, a baseball field, softball fields, a basketball court and the County Connector walking trail. It is the easiest public place in Green for a playground stop or a casual walk.
Other Township Parks
Wesley Field, also on Kennedy Road, is home to Little League baseball and has parking on site. Papa Park is on Scenic Drive in the Lake Tranquility section of the township, with a small field, a playground and parking. Fireman’s Field sits behind the fire house and the Greendell Post Office on Kennedy Road and is described as a simple maintained field.
Lake Tranquility itself is a private lake community, so the public park on Scenic Drive is the township-listed place to visit in that neighborhood.
Whittingham Wildlife Management Area
Whittingham Wildlife Management Area covers 1,950 acres in Green and Fredon townships and is managed by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Division of Fish and Wildlife. The official WMA map marks parking, an office and a dog-training area inside the boundary. It is the big outdoor space on Green’s western side, a short hop from Fredon.
Township Offices and the Old Airport
Green Township Administrative Offices are at 150 Kennedy Road, Tranquility, NJ 07879, in the old primary school building. Posted office hours are 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM, closed from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM for lunch. The phone number is (908) 852-9333. A large meeting room downstairs is used by groups that include the Green Township Senior Club and the Green Township Historical Society, and the township says the old Trinca Airport is available on a limited basis.
